My Pick of the Week: February 13-18

My pick of the week is a collection of Robert Frost’s poems.

Frost has been called the most American of poets, with his down-to-earth style that is reminiscent of dialogue. Most of his poems deal with themes of nature, farm life, and community. A few of my favorites are “The Road Not Taken”, “The Fear”, “Mending Wall”, and “To the Thawing Wind”.

Frost is my favorite next to Hopkins. I love his deceptive simplicity. He spoke of his poems as being a child’s toys left out in a room so the parents would trip over them in the dark. His poems had things that he wanted to make you stumble over in order to snack your face on the big questions. I think “something” is one of those things. It comes up all over the place.
